Google to digitize history
By Yazan MalakhaRecently Google struck a deal to digitize the National Archive’s video content and offer it to the public for free. This is certainly a valuable public service and Google should be applauded for it.
I realize I throw punches at Google left and right. However they remain to be one of my favorite companies when it comes to giving back to the community. Be it Google.org which to date has donated $33M in advertising to more than 850 non-profite organizations around the world, being part of the Acumen fund, or simply working to preserve history.
Of course at the present time they’re just working on preserving American history, which is highly irrelavant to non-Americans, with a few exceptions such as the landing on the moon. But what if the project takes shapes and expands across american borders and begin covering the history of countries and museums across the world. Now that’s a Google project I’d be very interested in.
