Microsoft & The Orgrami Project
By Yazan MalakhaOrigami (折り紙 or 折紙 origami “paper folding”) is the art of paper folding. The goal of this art is to create a given result using geometric folds and crease patterns. The word literally means “paper folding” in Japanese and refers to all types of paper folding, even those of non-Japanese origin.
On the other hand Origami Project is a site mysterously registered by Microsoft Corporation (orgamiproject.com). The site has a teaser stating it the secret will be revealed on the 2nd of March. This is probably the very first time Microsoft keeps something hushed. Products are usually marketed and hyped about to customers before it his the shelves. Remember Windows Cairo’s failure? Or perhaps WinFS the new file system that was supposed to ship with Windows Vista but got postponed for a year or two.

Everyone is making predictions, if you take a look Scobles’ entry; you’ll see everything from Mircrosoft’s iPod killer. Others believe it’s the hyped out Ultra Mobile lifestyle PC. It could be anything and here’s why. Circles and links can be a PCB (Printed Circuit Board for you none geeks) and if you’ve been reading up National Semiconductor showcased a device called Orgami at Comdex 2001; a mobile device about the size of a mini-camcorder that folds up 8 ways to perform popular consumer tasks. Could this be a hushed up WinCE / XP embedded powering the device? Maybe!

On the other hand; a friend of mine thinks it could be relative/social searching network. It could be, cirlces are site, bigger circle is the site you’re on and smaller sites are relative sites/contacts? That’s another maybe. I guess we’ll all know in a couple of days.
What do you think it will be?

Just moments ago we were discussing the possibility of a social search engine! It hit me that it might be Mix06 related event as it’s taking place in March, but it turned out to be March 20th not 2nd.
I’m eager to know what people think it might be.

Interesting. so Karim thinks it will flop… I do think that Microsoft are behind on the whole people networking thing… aside from MSN Messenger that is, and MSN Spaces..

Roba, Microsoft is a platfrom company not a services/social networking company, I don’t see a reason why they should be. I haven’t really checked on this but I believe MSN spaces are more common than blogger, I could be wrong. Eitherway, you never know trends change, it might be social.. but it seems everyone is speaking of a new gadget
