Screenshots of Mac OS X Running Under Windows XP

By Yazan Malakha

As I’m about to clone this into a harddrive (OS X runs painfully slow when emulated under Windows; although this can be fixed.), I thought I’d take a few screenshots. Behold, Mac OS X Tiger running under Windows XP SP2.. what word can be used to describe that?

Yes, provided that you have a processor that supports SSE2 and SSE3 (if you intend on using Rosetta)

    this is neaaaat…

and I thought that now with the apple/intel agreement apple boxes are no more a luxury. I guess it could be done even with windows installed..

Apple boxes are still a luxury, even the intel ones.

First of, the MacOS X is designed for these boxes, and is protected by a PTM chip; what you see here is a hack of the developer’s edition of MacOS X Tiger.

Second, this is a very gray area, you’re neglecting the most important aspects of MacOS X, good support (which isn’t available since this is illegal), and the fact that this is not a complete OS.

The only way Apple boxes would no longer be a luxury, is if Apple decides to license its OS to other manufacturers

Personally, I’m a fan of subscription services when it comes to music, there’s music that you’d listen to for a couple of weeks then toss away; it would be insane to buy these off of iTunes (presuming we’re listening to legitimate music). iTunes holds a monopoly on 75% of music players in the states. If you have an iPod and want to listen to legitimate music, that’s the place to go.

On the other hand Microsoft has a “Plays for sure” scheme, you can buy music from their website, from other services, or just subscribe to a service like napster and listen to all the music you want. That’s more freedom, don’t you think?

I’m running it both natively and under windows. In most cases you need to install it under vmware then copy the image into a harddisk. I’ll post a complete Mac OS X Installation guide today.
